Kidz ‘n’ Cats new collection 2016
We love this time of year because it is when our suppliers launch their new collections and the Kidz ‘n’Cats new collection will not disappoint! For those of you not familiar with Kidz ‘n’ Cats dolls they are 46cm all vinyl dolls for age 6+ designed entirely by Sonya Hartmann introduced in 2009. Sonja has the ability to sculpt innocent child like faces and she also has an amazing talent for fashion design, as all the dolls arrived dressed in very intricate outfits with lots of pieces with loads of detail. For this reason, not only are Kidz ‘n’ Cats dolls very popular with older girls, but doll collectors also love them.
Sadly, as of 2017, production of these lovely dolls was ceased due to continual problems with production. As a retailer it is really important to us that we receive good quality dolls and we did make a big fuss when things went badly wrong, which started with this collection. The wigs were awful and could not be sold. We sold as many as we could and I tried to support Kidz ‘n’ Cats as much as possible by having them check the dolls before sending. I feel so sorry for the designer Sonja Hartmann and her daughter Gesa, who put so much into the dolls but they were let down by the factories. Very sad because I know that these dolls would have been amongst the most popular dolls in the world if they had been made properly.
Kidz ‘n’ Cats Alice – she has a brunette wig with fringe and tiny plaits, and brown eyes
Kidz ‘n’ Cats dolls are made using phthalate free vinyl which is a touch darker in colour than most children’s light skinned dolls. They have a slightly olive tone. The dolls have 11 joints altogether including in their elbows, knees and wrists which means that they can be posed in lots of positions thereby making doll play much more fun as the dolls look so realistic and come alive. Their hair is always a high quality wig, which means that the hair keeps it’s style more easily than with rooted hair and they also look more natural too. The acrylic glass eyes of the Kidz ‘n’ Cats dolls are some of the best available in the play doll market. They are fixed in position (so don’t close) and are so incredibly detailed. Kidz ‘n’ Cats don’t stick to a set blue, brown and green as many childrens doll companies do, but instead you they use all kinds of different shades of eye colour, which, mixed with the various face moulds, all the different hair colours and styles available, results in a collection every year of a diverse range of the most beautiful dolls.
Kidz ‘n’ Cats doll Lucia, with a golden brown wig and bright green eyes
The clothes are also incredible. Instead of using velcro, real notions are used. So you’ll find real zips, buttons and button holes, hooks and eyes and poppers, all of which are very tiny so fiddly for very young children. Because of the clothes, the extra joints and the hair, the Kidz ‘n’ Cats dolls are recommended for children from at least age 6, but age 8 would be even better.
Kidz ‘n’ Cats Niko – love him! Light blonde hair and light blue eyes with a dark rim.
Extra dolls clothes and accessories are also available from Kidz ‘n’ Cats but some other makes do fit as well. Petalina Girl clothes were designed to fit Kidz ‘n’ Cats dolls and many Gotz, Kathe Kruse and Paola Reina clothes for Soy Tu also fit.
Kidz ‘n’ Cats doll Selina with a light blonde wig and hazel/green eyes (they need closer inspection…..)
When Kidz ‘n’ Cats dolls were first introduced, there was always a reference to cats included in the design, whether it was an actual toy cat dressed in a matching outfit, or some embroidery or printing replicating a cat. Due to increasing costs of production it was decided not to include the cats with each doll but instead they are available separately.
Last but by no means least, this is Clarissa, with a curly red wig and brown eyes. Not suitable for girls under age 8 due to the curls.
Kidz ‘n’ Cats Mini Annie – such a gorgeous little doll with a light blonde wig, pale blue fixed eyes and long lashes.
In 2015 the Kidz ‘n’ Cats mini dolls were added to the range and this year we see two new additions, both of which are stunning.
Kidz ‘n’ Cats mini doll Fredy – light blonde hair and pale blue inset eyes
There are also new outfits for the 46cm Kidz ‘n’ Cats dolls. Such a beautiful violet coat and a new riding outfit.
These little dresses are for the mini dolls and are also new for 2016.
Two years ago we were given a sneaky peak at the new furniture which has taken a while to finalise. But these items will be available this year and we are so pleased!
The new bed shown with the Goodnight Set and retired Julia.
The new wardrobe complete with hangers and a drawer with plenty of room for storing all those clothes and accessories as modelled by Kidz ‘n’ Cats Lena.
The new table and chairs – can’t wait for these!
White painted furniture is notoriously difficult to achieve high quality imports from the far east, and they are too expensive to be made anywhere else. The furniture unfortunately didn’t ever happy which is such a shame!
